AN appeal for old photographs and items of historical interest relating to Mellor has been launched.
Two men from the village are busy putting together a book about years gone by and are aiming to have it published to mark the millennium.
Jeff Peake and Neil Summersgill would both like to hear from anybody who may have a photograph of a Mellor scene from the past.
They are particularly interested in features of the village that can no longer be seen, such as any building that has been knocked down.
The book will form part of a series of events that a Millennium Project Committee in Mellor is planning for the year 2000.
Parish councillors and representatives from all of the churches in the village make up the committee which has discussed a number of ideas. Plans so far include:
The building of a viewing area on Mellor Moor overlooking the surrounding area.
A celebratory ecumenical service as the millennium draws near.
The planting of a copse of broadleaf trees.
Updating a book published in 1982 in Mellor called "School Days."
The Mellor Girls Youth Fellowship taking photographs of Mellor during 1999 to put into a book for future generations to see how the village looked at the turn of the century.
A grand gala day during the year 2000 involving all sections of the community in Mellor.
Anybody who can help Jeff Peake and Neil Summersgill in their quest for old photographs and historical items to do with Mellor can contact Jeff on 01254 813654.
