IN reply to your article 'Nurses In car park furore' (LET, May 20), could I make it clear that the residents in the Infirmary area of Blackburn have to pay £10 to park their cars on the streets where they live and if they have a second vehicle it costs them £35.
Also, we have to pay £10 for a visitor's pass. Even my next-door neighbour, who doesn't own a car, has had to buy one because, if she didn't, anyone calling at her house in a vehicle, even workmen, would be booked by the traffic warden constantly patrolling the area.
I feel very sorry for anyone who works at the Infirmary or who may be visiting there. However, I think that many people are under the wrong impression that residents in the Infirmary area are given their permits free of charge.
Why should we let hospital staff park on our roads free of charge?
I agree that, maybe there are spaces available during the day when residents are at work, so why do we have to pay £10 or £35 if we only park our cars outside our houses after 6pm?
It should be noted that my neighbour recently came home in a work's van and because he didn't have a permit for it, he was booked by the police - at 6.10am! Where is the justice in this?
