I RECENTLY attended a planning meeting at Morecambe Town Hall. I was pleased the committee deferred the proposed plans for the housing development of the Battersby Coach site, West End Road, in Morecambe.
Before the deferral a number of issues were raised: the unsuitability of the whole scheme, the physical construction of the building (thin walls, etc) an upper storey with louvre type windows, small living rooms and kitchens, rubbish bins at the front of each premises and poor access to the rear.
I wish to congratulate the lady councillor who was accused by the chairman of making an impassioned plea against the proposals (I didn't manage to catch her name)
It is about time we had a councillor willing to stand up and be counted, one who gets upset when things are not right? If there were a few more like her perhaps many of our existing problems could have been avoided.
We, the local residents, do not take this deferral as a victory. We would like to see the whole scheme refused totally. The only way forward for our area of Morecambe is to get this 'ghetto' cleared up, not to allow big business for financial gain to extend their empire at our cost. We have had enough!
