Kendal 7 Lancaster 9 water polo LANCASTER maintained their unbeaten run after a tough match at Kendal last weekend - despite being a man down.
City lost Geoff Shingler after just two minutes with an eye injury. And it looked bad for the away team shortly afterwards when Kendal scored to take the lead. But they showed great determination to come back and take a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. They then managed to hold on in the second quarter partly thanks to the hard work of younger players Paul Squires and Gavin McLaughlin.
Lancaster took command for much of the third period, but Kendal refused to give in and fought back well to reduce the deficit to just 7-5 going in the last quarter.
Any Kendal hopes were extinguished early on in the last period as Lancaster took a 3-0 advantage early on although Kendal battled away as the older City players began to tire. Lancaster City 19 Blackburn 0 Lancaster crushed Blackburn just 24 hours after narrowly beating Kendal. Blackburn, used to playing in a much smaller pool than Salt Ayre, fielded a similar side to the one that held Lancaster to an 8-8 draw in the Winter League and were confident of recording a more respectable score than on their last visit. But it didn't take Lancaster long to snuff out any such hopes as Danny Powell gave Lancaster a 1st minute lead and then went on to complete a first quarter hat-trick. City then increased the pressure and a devastating final quarter with Lancaster banging in seven without reply.
