THOUSANDS of people took to the streets of Preston to celebrate the Bank Holiday in colourful Caribbean style.
Despite the overcast weather, nothing could stop Deepdale marking the start of summer in the spirit of the Sunshine Islands with a carnival to remember.
Donning multi-coloured costumes, Preston's party people adorned vivid floats and entertained crowds of revellers.
Preston's new mayor Rose Kinsella was among the visitors from across the country. She said: "It has been like this for 20 years, it's amazing.
"This event is quite unique in the country and attracts people from all over.
"Young and old alike can come along and enjoy the carnival spirit."
Carnival Queen Leanne Daley, 18, from Fulwood, said: "It is a real privilege to be the carnival Queen today."
