IT was a disappointing weekend for Sutton as the first eleven lost two games despite putting in battling performances.
Sutton's batting was all at sea against Prescot and Odyssey, slumping to 99 all out with only Hodgson (21), Anders (24) and Martin Harvey (24) getting to grips with the bowling.
Prescot eventually took the spoils at 100-6 with a fine 4-31 from Kee Barr to no avail.
On Monday Sutton took up where they left off and bowled out the powerful Wavertree side for 149 with skipper Andy Brogan, Sean Anders and Stee Wearden among the wickets. Keen fielding and tight bowling by Mark Reynolds ensured a realistic target for the Sutton batting. Unfortunately Sutton stumbled to 10-3 in the face of a hostile visiting attack but Barr (27) and Anders (19) repaired the damage and the Harvey brothers Joe (25) and Martin (35) looked to have put Sutton on course for victory with a wonderful stand at the heart of the innings.
But both players fell in the run chase and with Mike Rimmer stranded at 15 no the Sutton innings folded just nine runs short of victory.
Sutton's youngsters had their second win at the under 11 age group on Friday. Chris Rimmer has the boys well fired up and with the under 15 and under 18 also going well the future looks assured.
The second eleven had a terrible Saturday. Stu Rimmer smashed 61 in a total of 193 but poor fielding allowed Prescot to complete a double.
However, with Lawton and Marsh in form with the bat a creditable draw with Wavertree was earned.
