RESIDENTS overlooking a Lancaster church are hoping the council will throw out a vicar's plans to have the churchyard trees chopped down.
In February, residents were outraged by the felling off two mature sycamores at the rear of Christ Church and the council responded by putting preservation orders on the five remaining trees. But news that the Rev Peter Ballard has applied to have the orders removed has further angered the residents.
The matter will be decided by councillors at the next licensing committee and local resident Sue Parrish said: "These are lovely mature trees that are part of our neighbourhood. The people who object to them being cut down are not your usual protesters, they're just ordinary people who want the trees to stay. We hope the councillors will support us."
