A PROJECT encouraging people to look after East Lancashire's rivers will be officially launched next month.
River Enhancement East Lancashire is the latest part of the Mersey Basin Campaign network.
It is backed by Pendle, Burnley and Hyndburn Councils, community groups, the Environment Agency and North West Water.
The official launch will be at the Stoneyholme and Daneshouse Community Centre, Burnley, on June 13.
A photography competition has been set up to coincide with the launch.
The competition, REEL Life Along the River, is open to all ages and closing date for entries is June 8. Entry forms available from Pendle Heritage Centre, Barrowford.
An exhibition of photos from competition entries will be displayed at the launch.
REEL chairman Arthur Micklewright said: "Its success depends on involving the public in efforts to improve the waterside environment. "These photos will give us a chance to see how others view the river corridor and what are the key issues."
Local nature expert Ron Freethy will present the winners with their prizes, which include cash, a hot air balloon ride and a weekend break with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
Full programme of events from Pendle Heritage Centre or REEL co-ordinator on 01282 695366.
