SOCCER stars of the future got a chance to be professional footballers when World Cup fever arrived in Burnley.

The community programme team from Turf Moor held a half-term soccer coaching course at four venues in the town - with a World Cup theme for added spice.

When the party of 200 youngsters started on the two-day courses, they picked the name of a famous footballer from the World Cup who they wanted to be before taking part in their own mini tournament.

Junior co-ordinator Angela Booth, said: "With the World Cup starting soon, we just thought we would try to promote it by introducing the theme in the soccer schools.

"They all got a T-shirt in their team's colours and on the back the name of the professional they were playing was printed on. England gave a good performance!"

The youngsters, aged from five to 14, played at Gawthorpe, Benjamin Hargreaves, Towneley Astroturf and Worsthorne.
