A MAN was stabbed with a pair of scissors on his doorstep by a complete stranger in an apparently motiveless attack in Morecambe this week. The 53-year-old victim was about to enter his home on Regent Road after a night out at about 2.10am on Sunday morning when he was tapped on his shoulder, sworn at and stabbed with the scissors in the abdomen. The victim then staggered inside his home and managed to call an ambulance. He was rushed to the RLI where surgeons removed the scissors without causing any further injury. Luckily no major organs had been pierced despite the scissors being embedded just to left of the stomach. The man was able to leave hospital a few hours later.

Now residents in the area are asking why a promised CCTV camera has not been installed near to the scene of the crime. Chairman of West End Residents' Committee Eric Sharples said the camera should have been in place by the end of March.

He said: "It's a shame it wasn't there. Even if it wouldn't have stopped him, it would have helped police catch him. We were due to have two, but because of lack of funding we've been put down to one and money's tight for that."

But Graham Cox of the council's Estates and Valuation department said the delay was caused by work on the promenade as the council planned to install three together - two on the seafront and one on Regent St.

The knife attacker is described as white, 6ft 2ins, slim, with a clean shaven thin face and slicked back short dark hair. He was wearing a dark V-neck jumper with lighter coloured shirt opened underneath.
