A CAMPAIGN to keep youngsters out of trouble has been launched by South Ribble Mayor Jim Owen.
Operation Streetwise involves officers visiting some 30 schools in the area to advise children how to avoid accidents AND crime.
More than 1,000 schoolchildren in Year six will participate in the scheme from June 8-19.
Coun Owen said: "Children need to be told of the dangers which surround them and what to do in emergency situations."
They will be taught bike safety and maintenance by Lancashire Police while the Ambulance service will teach first aid to the 11-year-olds.
The British Transport Police will warn about the dangers of playing on the railway, with support from Norweb, who will provide information about staying away from electricity sub-stations. Other demonstrations from the Fire Brigade and BT will also tour local schools.
