A BARMAID has finished third in a charity beer race with a difference.
Nicky Hargreaves, 22, of George Street, Rishton, joined more than a dozen barmaids from clubs in the Club and Institute Union (CIU), in a race over the final half-furlong at Doncaster Racecourse balancing a pint of Guinness on a tray.
It was the sixth running of the Guinness/CIU Barmaids' Derby, sponsored by Guinness and organised by CIU, Britain's biggest clubs organisation with more than 3,000 social clubs.
Nicky was sponsored in the race by Rishton Working Men's Club where she has worked for more than three years.
She managed to raise £170, as well as winning a £50 prize.
She said: "It was a superb day and there was a great atmosphere. I still had half a pint left at the end of the race which was pretty good. Some of my friends came to watch and it was a good laugh."
