THE chief executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce warns that a £3.60 per hour minimum wage will adversely affect local firms (LET, May 28).
However, if other proposals are implemented - viz under 21s being paid less and 16 to 18-year-olds having no minimum wage set - what is the problem?
Won't employers engage younger people on much lower rates until they are 21, then let them go and then employ another young person again?
Whatever their age, people should have a living wage for a week's work.
