TYLDESLEY'S Lee Meiger could box for Jersey in the Commonwealth Games.

This season's ABA featherweight finalist went to live and work on the island last year and would qualify as a resident.

He flew back to his home town last week to meet 1997 ABA champion Steven Bell, from Hyde, on a show organised by Meiger's former club, Centurions ABC.

Bell won a tough five-rounder on points but Meiger's stepfather Steve Walshaw, who runs Centurions, said: "Lee still has a great chance of making the Jersey team for Kuala Lumpur this September.

"We have been told a decision will be announced on June 10 and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for Lee."
