YOUNG and old alike have been taking part in Local Democracy Week in Bury.

Town hall leaders arranged a series of events to show residents just how much is going on and to encourage them to play their part.

Tens of school pupils took part in an all-day seminar called "Participate" on Tuesday (June 2) including a tour of Bury Town Hall. That was followed by a debate yesterday (June 4) on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

And council staff have been manning an information stall in the Mill Gate shopping centre.

Other events included inviting the public to look at plans to regenerate East ward and attend a meeting of the Environmental Forum, along with sessions at Bury Library and Castle Leisure Centre.
