TOUGHER driving tests are welcomed by Leigh MP Lawrence Cunliffe.
Proposals to introduce longer tests incorporating major roads, more varied road and traffic conditions and a totting up system where less serious faults could result in favour are in the pipeline.
Mr Cunliffe said:"I think many people would welcome changes that make the test more representative of the kind of driving they will do when they have passed, including on high-speed roads and dual carriageways.
"With driving conditions as they are today it is even more important that all drivers have a high level of competence."
