THE huge contribution that carers make to local people's lives is recognised next week.
A wide range of events has been planned to celebrate National Carers Week.
The programme starts on Monday, June 8, with an open day at the Seedfield Resource Centre in Bury, from 10am to 4pm.
And there will be a carers exhibition at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury Town Hall on Wednesday.
Other events include the Carers Partnership annual meeting on Monday at the resource centre with MP Ivan Lewis the guest speaker.
The Partnership will have an information stand in the Mill Gate shopping centre on Tuesday and Thursday.
The local Hurdles organisation stage an open day at their Morley Street, Bury offices on Tuesday. The Carers National Association will be handing out information at the Tesco store in Prestwich on Monday and Tuesday.
For those interested in alternative therapies, a day of workshops and treatments will be held at the Creative Living Centre in Prestwich.
Coun John Costello, social services spokesman, said: "The Seedfield centre has become a great example of just how many different organisations can work well under one roof.
"However, Carers Week is about throwing the spotlight on the tremendous job that carers do, the problems they have, the difficulties that need to be addressed.
"In Bury we very much value our carers in the community and we will continue to support them."
