HAYDOCK Cricket Club suffered a frustrating day on Saturday.
The first eleven were at home to Southport and District League leaders Winstanley Park.
Batting first, Haydock made a slowish start but early patience paid off in the end.
Rob Burke is showing some excellent form of lateand the Winstanley Park bowlers certainly found that out. Rob cut and pulled with great force, punishing anything short on his way to a fine 68. Naf Din, however, took things a stage further.
It was like watching edited highlights as the ball went crashing to the boundary as he finished with a fine 81, which rightly earned him the Barry Wood man of the match.
Tony Derbyshire was among the runs, his unbeaten 23 was a sign that his form is returning as Haydock reached 232-4 at tea. Dave Everitt 2-43 was the best Winstanley bowler.
Winstanley Park came out in determine mood, Gary Mosley seemed to have a point to prove and he did this in style as his fine 54 demonstrates. M Parkinson also rallied, his 77 was really inspiring and at one point the Park batsmen were cruising. However the Haydock paceman Dave Burrows halted Winstanleys progress his 4-65 from 15 overs was good enough to put the brake on earning his side a draw as Winstanley made 223-6 at stumps. Andy Bentham 1-43.
The Second eleven travelled to Winstanley a journey which would not prove fruitful. Alan Lever opened the batting as Haydock had first use of a good batting track. Lever played well and was looking dangerous when losing his wicket for 27. Derek Gibson continued his good form but was trapped leg before on 21. Mike Fogerty rallied the middle order in the face of some good seam bowling with a rousing 39 as Haydock reached 153 all out.
Winstanley Parks reply was good and I Clunes (40) gave them a good start. However, he was put down early on. Brian Corsar enhanced his reputation as a batsman with a fine 61 as Winstanley raced to victory making 157/5. Paul Johnson bowled well taking 2/31 but he must be ruing the missed chances.
