MORE than 80 people showed up to a public meeting with police to express their concerns at the rising tide of crime in Morecambe on Friday. But police say a new shake-up in Morecambe and Heysham will mean more visible community bobbies on the beat.
The reorganisation means officers will be given their own specific areas to police all the time, instead of dealing with different areas and different problems from day to day. Supt Bernard Lawson, operations manager with Lancashire Constabulary's northern division, explained: "Morecambe and Heysham police are re-organising and also allocating extra officers in the district.
"This is a problem solving approach whereby all officers will have ownership and responsibility for a given area."
