MITCHELL'S Brewery is to open a new museum and visitors' centre in time for the millennium.

The £750,000 tourist attraction is expected to generate 40 local jobs and be a 'millennium landmark' for the city. The brewers say the visitors' centre and museum will chronicle their 118 year history and show the art of cask brewing. Finance Director, Dermot McCarthy, said: "The project is designed to illustrate the company's commitment both to the city and to the wonderful heritage that has helped shape the unique nature of our products." He added: "We hope it attracts many new visitors to Lancaster and gives them a rich insight into the fascinating history of Mitchell's, while reflecting local pride at being at the centre of British brewing excellence."
