FORMER Everton and Wales goalkeeper Neville Southall has spoken of his burning ambition to be Stan Ternent's successor.

The man who won almost every domestic honour in the game in a glittering career with the Goodison Park outfit is desperate to get his first managerial job and sees the club where it all began as just the place to start.

Southall, 39, who ended the season coaching at Stoke City, has a deep affection for the Shakers and believes he has what it takes to build on the good work started by Ternent.

"I know what a great club it is and what it means to the people of Bury to have a successful side," said Southall, who was this week in Malta coaching the Welsh national squad.

"I started my professional career there and it would be nice to complete the circle and begin my managerial career at Gigg Lane.

"One of the things I could give Bury is the ability to bring more good players to the club. I have been a professional for 20 years and have plenty of contacts as well as a name that would attract others.

"Nothing would give me more pleasure than to give something back to the club that gave me my first chance in the game."
