RAY Ingleby is not yet in a position to call an extraordinary general meeting of Burnley Football Club.

The New York tycoon has bought nearly 30 per cent of the issued shares in the club. But the certificates have not yet been issued.

Supporters yesterday called for Ingleby to force the takeover issue by calling an EGM. Ingleby, however, would only be in a position to call that meeting when the documents are in his possession.

Share applications were submitted by Ingleby in three batches. It is expected that certificates for the first batch, of 2,500 shares, will be available in the next few days after lengthy administrative procedures are completed.

The Clarets Independent Supporters' Association also called for a boycott of club merchandise. But Turf Moor director Clive Holt today called for patience.

He said: "Obviously the club is very disappointed that the fans feel they need to do this.

"We would hope that they would reconsider. We understand their frustration and we are as frustrated as they are with the time that it is taking. But it cannot go on forever and as soon as we have any definitive news we will tell them.

"We are asking for a little more patience. The deal is not just for the next two years but for the next 20 years. You can marry in haste and repent at leisure. "We have to make sure that, if and when the club changes hands, that it is safe.

"Both offers are not what they seem to be.

"When you sit down and talk to both sides other things come out which are private and confidential.

"The fans will be told the full facts, if and when they are known."

Meanwhile Clarets boss Stan Ternent has opened talks with some of the out-of-contract players at Turf Moor.

"I have talked to one or two and I have a few to see next week," confirmed Ternent who is expected to see which players will be committing themselves to the cause before entering the summer transfer market. I need to see all of them and see where they are up to and if they are not staying weigh up the job if I need replacements," he added.

One of the next arrivals at Turf Moor following Ternent and number two Sam Ellis will be a new physiotherapist with the club interviewing potential replacements for Nick Worth today.

Former Burnley manager John Bond is in line to become Witton Albion's new director of football.

He will take over the post at the Unibond Club if his appointment and those of members of a new board are supported by shareholders at an extraordinary meeting next Friday.
