THE Government is urging pay restraints and telling the public to tighten their belts for the good of the country.
And departments are having to manage their affairs with less money as cuts are being made in their budgets.
This policy obviously does not apply to Mr Robin Cook, the Foreign Secretary. For he has ordered a £50,000 oval table for this month's EU summit in Cardiff.
The message from this government to the British people is obviously: 'Do as we say, not as we do.'
