EURO funding for the former Padiham Power Station site is splendid news for the Burnley area in particular and the rest of East Lancashire as a whole.
It could lead to as many as 500 new jobs and make good use of a key site.
The £2.5 million boost reminds us that cash from Europe has made a tremendous difference to areas of Britain like East Lancashire which faced hard times when their traditional manufacturing industries declined.
Potty Euro schemes like the one to ensure that bananas are straight hog all the headlines.
But it is worth remembering that funds from Europe are helping to revive areas of this country which have suffered years of industrial blight.
It is also worth bearing in mind that the new motorway link has played a vital role in development in the east of the county.
