MORE than 50 new jobs have been created and 70 more safeguarded through a training programme for the aerospace industry.
A total of £240,000 has been used over the past year to help members of the Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace improve the skills of their workforce.
More than 20 companies have received support to train 250 employees under the scheme.
"I think this is a real achievement for the Consortium," said Gillian Beeley, director of the Nelson-based trade association which represents more than 120 aerospace companies.
"We have been able to provide companies in the area with the financial support they need in an area that is key to developing their businesses and maintaining a competitive edge."
The initiative has been funded with support from the Konver European Social Fund, the Burnley and Pendle regeneration budgets, the Lancashire Manufacturing Partnership and ELTEC.
