THE weather was the only winner in St Helens CC's weekend games against Bolton.
In the first team game at home Bolton declared at tea with a score of 163-6. Paul Tatton was the top scorer with 74 not out and former St Helens skipper Geoff Cropper defied the years to be run out off the last ball of the innings for 23. Subu Banerjee claimed 4-54. In the 10 overs that remained before rain caused the game to be abandoned St Helens reached 31-2. The second team had a similar story with St Helens scoring 125-5 before the rain came. Mike Kenny scored 48 and Paul Keenaghan 40. The third team managed to play a complete game between the showers. Batting first, St Helens scored 212-9 declared off 42 overs. Top scorers were G Barr 51, A Cadel 51, J Elliot 38 and captain Brian Holmes with 22 not out. Oxton finished on 148-5 with Mark Malone taking 2-11 and Brian Holmes 2-25. The under 18 team lost to Haydock but the under 15 team beat the same opposition restricting Haydock to 80-6 off 20 overs with Naidoo bowling well to take 4-11 and Rigby 2-9. St Helens blasted their way to a win in 10 overs, Bennett (36) and Travis (25 not out).
