THE University of Central Lancashire has been awarded £900,000 to create a top class training centre.
The cash, from the Department for Education and Employment, is in response to Secretary of State David Blunkett's call for Centres of Excellence.
The Preston campus will join Lancashire College Consortium, LAWTEC and Enterprise plc to develop the centre, which will offer staff training to small and medium-size businesses.
British Aerospace, British Nuclear Fuels Ltd and NIS Invotec Ltd are backing the centre, at the Harris Knowledge Park.
UCLa's Deputy Vice Chancellor Alan Roff said: "This is a tremendous opportunity for the university, its partners and the region. It is a tribute to the expertise and resources we have at our disposal and the confidence placed in us at the very highest level."
