A LINK between poor housing and ill health among the Asian community in Hyndburn has been revealed in a survey.
Now the findings could lead to an improvement in standards of houses used by Asians.
The council and the Hyndurn Asian Housing Forum appointed an independent research consultancy to carry out the "Opening Doors" survey which provides detailed information about housing conditions.
The Asian community makes up five per cent of the borough's population and 3.4 per cent of households, many of which are terraced property around 100 years old.
Hyndburn Council now plans to use the information when pressing for money for improvements to property.
The survey also looked at the housing needs of young Asians and also revealed a strong community spirit, with most Asians saying they felt positive about life.
Four hundred of the borough's 1,200 Asian households were visited.
The findings have since been discussed by bosses of housing organisations from the North West attending a housing presentation at Accrington's Globe Centre.
