A NEW broom will be sweeping through Preston's CVS to prepare it for the new Millennium.
Joan Burrows, who this month took over as chief officer for the Preston Council for Voluntary Services, promises to give the organisation a fresh new image.
The former president of the Preston Business and Professional Women's Club, stepped into Hilary Brooke's shoes on June 1.
She has already planned changes for the CVS, hoping to raise its profile and encourage more communication with local voluntary groups.
She said: "Hilary did a marvellous job but I feel it is time to raise Preston CVS's profile, in line with branches in other areas."
Joan is also urging more local businesses and organisations to back the CVS financially.
She added: "We are a registered charity and need a constant flow of cash.
"At the moment, there are so many things we can't afford to do."
The CVS has around 100 members, to whom it offers an 'umbrella service', giving advice and support.
They also distribute around 450 monthly newsletters to various local organisations.
Based at 93 Fishergate Hill, in Preston, the CVS is now welcoming ideas and suggestions from volunteers who feel they are not being offered a complete service.
Joan added: "I want people to come forward with their requests. We want to give the best service possible but we don't know if we're achieving this unless we have some sort of response."
The Preston CVS is holding its annual general meeting at Preston Town Hall, at 2.30pm on Tuesday, June 16.
