A RUNAWAY car pinned a young woman to a wall and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage when it smashed into the side of a house.
Ambulance workers and fire fighters had to rescue Andrea Wood after she got trapped between her Land Rover Discovery and a wall at her Darwen home.
Emergency crews worked for around 30 minutes to free the 23-year-old outside her bungalow in Rectory Close.
She received treatment at the scene for leg injuries before being taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
She was released several hours later and was recovering at her home last night.
Fire fighters believe the Land Rover lurched forward when Andrea reached inside the vehicle to get her keys from the ignition, trapping her between the door and the wall. Part of the front of the house was pushed in by force of the car which was also slightly damaged.
Darwen based paramedic Brian Gorton was one of the first to arrive at the scene.
He said: "The woman was trapped between the wall and her car and was calling out for help.
"She was in some distress and we got into the car and gave her some oxygen to help her with her breathing.
He added: "When the fire brigade arrived they pushed the car out of the drive while we supported the lady.
"She was in some shock and obviously quite shaken up but we managed to free her relatively quickly."
A fire crew from Darwen and the brigade's incident support unit were called to the house along with the police.
