WHY is Lancaster's MP Hilton Dawson not campaigning harder against plans to burn BSE at Nightingale Hall Farm. Why is he not:
a. putting the residents' views to John Prescott who has the final say in the current planning enquiry into the smell and what Fats and Protein can burn?
b. lobbying Food Safety Minister Jeff Rooker, who will decide where to burn BSE waste ie. rendering plants or power stations? c. getting together with other MPs in similar situations to form a united lobby to persuade the Government that burning BSE waste near homes and schools is unacceptable. For example, the West Lancashire MP Colin Pickthall is also fighting a BSE incinerator in his constituency. Mr Dawson says it would be "inappropriate" to lobby John Prescott. Why? You can bet the rendering industry has no such qualms. He has privileged access to people in power but he's not using it.
Compare this with Morecambe's Geraldine Smith who is even now lobbying the prisons' minister over Middleton Towers even though, on the face of it, the fight is lost. Mr Dawson should remember that his inaction will be remembered at the next general election.
