FAR be it for me to give Cllr Mrs Heath a history lesson but, at a meeting of the planning committee on February 16, 1998 (four months ago), the committee dealt with an application from Osprey Leisure. The planning application was for a change of use for units HJ and K on Marine Road, from retail use, to a family entertainment centre. Ground floor to have gaming machines with only 16 per cent to have cash prizes and, a family pool hall upstairs. The officer report clearly said it was Rank Leisure who were interested in doing this. Comments were made at the meeting of how wonderful it was that a company as prestigious as Rank Leisure was wanting to invest in Morecambe when, for years none of the major leisure companies would even look in Morecambe's direction. There were also reports of this in the local press. Present at the meeting from the Independent group were councillors Budden, Knight and Taylor.
How sad that members of Cllr Heath's own group chose to keep her in the dark. As for the meeting of Morecambe Centre Service Group, Cllr Yates is capable of many things but turning herself into Cllr Derrick Stanley is not one of them. But I suppose as Cllr Heath had just returned from her holiday she could have been having a 'dream' of her own.
