I WAS heartened to see that more strenuous efforts have been advocated for the collection and recycling of waste materials (LET, June 3). I hope Pendle Council will take heed.
I read more than six months ago that they intended to supply bags for the various recyclable materials and indeed I wrote to the chairman of the council to congratulate them and to say how glad I was that I need no longer have numerous bags of waste paper decorating the house.
Over the years, I have disposed of these in a variety of ways, some even going as far as Portsmouth to the Friends of the Earth via a daughter who works and lives in Portsmouth: this was over 12 years ago.
Apart from receiving an acknowledgement of my letter nothing further seems to have been done. There are many people, like myself, who do not have transport and are unable to carry heavy weights; a collection from the home would be a blessing.
