PLANS to combat racial discrimination in East Lancashire came under the spotlight at the annual meeting of Hyndburn and Rossendale Racial Equality Council at the Astoria Ballroom, Rawtenstall.
The council issued its annual report and director Mahammed Hanif explained how the council was working in partnership with businesses and local authorities to change views on race issues.
The council is also working closely with the police to discuss concerns of the ethnic minorities. Mr Hanif said the council wanted to form links with schools to assist if race problems occurred.
The meeting was told that the council had been awarded the Investors in People award.
Mr Hanif added: "We believe we are the first private, public or voluntary sector organisation in East Lancashire to achieve the award within four months of committing ourselves.
"We are also only the second racial equality council in the UK to receive the award."
