CAMPAIGNERS who have won a two year battle to secure a post box for their community claim the new facility is definitely second class!
Edna Collier, the owner of Priory Stores, Priory Drive, Darwen, pushed the Royal Mail for a post box on her land with the help of hundreds of people living in the surrounding area.
They were celebrating the victory until seeing the size of the new box when it was installed this week.
Mrs Collier said: "It would have much better to give us a proper sized letter box instead of this tiny one on a pole. The estate is growing all the time and there is nowhere else close by to post letters.
"It's a disappointment for everybody who has been campaigning over the last two years."
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Royal Mail always tries to respond to customers needs and we are very pleased to be able to provide a new box on Priory Drive, Darwen.
"We will be monitoring its use closely to ensure it is adequate to cope with the amount of mail posted there."
