THERE are more questions and answers for Bury's table-topping MP David Chaytor.

The Labour man has come 43rd out of 659 when it comes to asking the most written questions in Parliament - some 138 in all.

The Bury North MP is Number One among Greater Manchester MPs, none of which features in the top 100.

He lies in second place among new Labour MPs anywhere, fourth among North West MPs, and in eighth position among all new MPs of any party.

Mr Chaytor said he was "surprised and delighted" to be so far up the league.

"I should point out that Parliamentary Questions are only one small part of an MP's job and we all choose to give a different emphasis to different aspects of our work," he said.

"This list should not be seen as an indication of how hard we work, it's more an indication of what aspects of our work we think should be prioritised."

The MP added: "This list doesn't include oral questions which are selected at random by computer and where I have been much less fortunate.

"I must admit that I wasn't particularly aware of having asked a lot of questions. But I'm pleased that I seem to have kept my childlike sense of curiosity about how things work - in spite of the best efforts of the Government Whips' Office!"
