BLACKBURN Golf Club has applied for the diversion and closure of existing footpaths in the open area between Revidge Road and West Leigh Road on the pretext of protecting public safety.
This area is well used by local residents and there is some concern that access may be limited.
Injury by flying golf balls has been something of a rarity and their concern is rather suspect.
Open green spaces are at a premium in a large town and this area should be left as it is for the benefit of the local community.
These footpaths have been in regular use for more than 50 years without a single golf-related fatality!
Those wishing to object to this unnecessary proposal should make their views known to the Highways department of Blackburn Council as soon as possible.
MAUREEN OLSZEWSKA (Mrs), Revidge Road, Blackburn.
