QUARRY workers have been praised for helping to pull a colleague to safety after his windpipe was crushed during a horrific accident.
Michael Creighton, 44, was seriously hurt when the digger he was driving went under a metal storage container at Tarmac Roadstone, Pimlico Link Road, Clitheroe, crushing his head and chest.
His partner Joanna Thorne has thanked two fellow workers, Graham Dixon and Dave Cookson, who went to his aid.
She said: "I can't thank Graham and Dave enough. They helped save Michael's life. If they hadn't pulled him free he wouldn't be here today.
"It is still early days and we are still not sure if there will be any lasting damage. I would also like to say a big thank-you to the ambulance team and the doctors and nurses who have all been wonderful.
"Michael doesn't remember a thing about the accident. He is still very confused."
Mr Creighton lives with Joanna and their three daughters in Grindleton Road, West Bradford.
His mother, Margaret, lives in Alma Place, Clitheroe.
He was rushed to the Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated in the intensive care unit for two days. He is now in a comfortable condition.
