THE weather won the battle at the weekend as the Haydock's cricketers were victims of the June rain.

The first eleven did see action in a reduced over affair at Rainford.

The game started at 4pm and after a lengthy delay Rainford elected to bat. J Dalrymple did not hang about he blasted 82 from 45 balls in an effort to get a result. He received good support from fellow opener Calland who hit 51 as Rainford romped to 168-5 in 29 overs.

Dave Burrows bowled well under difficult conditions he took 2-39 from his first spell. Barry Greenwood also bowled well his 2-13 was an excellent performance, particularly when the batsmen were looking to get runs quickly.

Haydock did get a chance to reply but it was very difficult going early on.

Nafees Din batted really well, the conditions were not conducive to batting but he worked and was unlucky to lose his wicket for 23. Rob Burke gave good support and he also tried hard, however it was not to be his day and he went for 14 as Haydock finished on 51-4 and settled for the draw.

The seconds' tussle with Norley Hall was called off without a ball being bowled.
