LEIGH Conservative Association is fielding a fresh team for a bright, new future.

At a special meeting to vote on William Hague's "fresh future" proposals members backed the new party constitution which will unify the party into one body and picked new Association leaders.

Heading the new team is chairman and local hairdresser David Morris, one of the youngest constituency Chairmen in Britain.

He is on the selection committee for the European elections, Merseyside East and Wigan Euro constituency chairman, and the last ever North West Young Conservative Chairman.

He has also been secretary and agent for Leigh and is also widely tipped in Tory circles to be one of William Hague's new breed of young innovative Tory MPs.

Said David: "We have a great team which is looking forward to future successes."

Vice Chairman for membership recruitment is Nigel Isherwood and Vice Chairman for political development is Anne Davis. She acted as agent to her husband Derek when he contested Leigh East ward in Wigan Council elections.

Treasurer Andrew Oxley is an accountant and former councillor who ran for Hope Carr in May.

Secretary Malcolm Parr has been an active member of the constituency since the 1970s Malcolm and has been more recently been involved with the Conservative Club.

President Mary Sharland guided the Leigh Association for many years as chairman until her recent retirement.

Future chairman is University of London politics student Andre Walker, 19. Andre is a campaigner against Labour's tuition fees for students policy who is expected to run as Conservative candidate for the NUS executive committee.

Future vice chairman Matthew Lee is a geology student at St. Andrews University who has been integral in the revival of the Young Conservatives.
