Kendal 96-6 Preston 100-6 PRESTON obtained a winning draw at Shap Road against Kendal courtesy of the rain which saw two hours and 25 minutes of the game lost due to the Lakeland weather.
Put in to bat, Preston lost their first two wickets with the score on nine. Paul Mann was run out by brother Antony for six, and then Asif Bukhari was lbw to Adrian Potts without opening his account. The third wicket fell at 11 when Greg Bamber was caught by Graham Barnes off Potts for a duck. Glen Johnstone and Antony Mann retrieved the situation with a 42-run partnership before Mann was run out for 14. Half the Preston side were dismissed for 70 when Paul Greenwood was bowled by Veenstra for six.
Johnstone departed with the score on 96 for an aggressive 51. His innings lasted an hour and he faced 69 balls and hit three sixes and 5 fours.
Paul Paynter and Jonathan Fleetwood were undefeated with 12 and two respectively when Preston's innings closed at 100 for 6 off their allotted 32 overs.
Kendal were left 27 overs to go for the runs and they made a sound start. Andrew Mawson and Jimmy Moyes put on 43 for the first wicket before the former was bowled by Parekh for 30. Nine runs later Moyes was well caught by Glen Johnstone off Parekh for 16.
Terry Hunte was next out with the score on 70, caught by Paul Greenwood off Iqbal Lilley for 16.
Ross Veenstra and Paul Fearneyhough were both run out for 10 and Sean Stuart bowled by Lilley for nought as Kendal ended five runs short of victory.
LEYLAND achieved a winning draw in their rain affected match at Stanley Park against Blackpool. They lost 10 overs of their innings because of rain, and finished on 133 for 9, thanks to opening batsman Lee Heyes who made 67. He was eighth out with the score on 118 for 8. His innings lasted 122 minutes and he hit 3 fours.
His captain, Mark Pallett, resisted with 22 but Craig Gardner with 16 was the only other batsman to get into double figures.
Marcus Sharp the Blackpool professional took 5 for 43, including the hat-trick. Blackpool made a valiant attempt to go for the runs but fell 11 short with the last pair, Paul Danson and John Kirkby at the wicket. They finished with 32 and nought not out respectively. Danson's 32 came off only 29 balls.
Steven Pallett bowled excellently to take 6 for 53 from 16 consecutive overs.
