PRIMARY and senior schools in Newton and Earlestown are being invited to take part in a competition designed to raise awareness of the CCTV Eyes Over Newton Campaign.

The campaign has already managed to raise £3,500 thanks to local individuals, organisations, businesses and banks, with promises of a further £3,000 from the business community.

And it is hoped enough money will be raised to install and operate10 cameras at various points in Newton and Earlestown.

To highlight the campaign, the CCTV Eyes Over Newton group have asked youngsters at local primary schools to design labels, which will include the campaign logo, to cover more than 110 collecting boxes.

The creator of the winning label will win a watch of his/her choice (up to the value of £30) from F. Mort & Son. Four-runners up will win a cuddly teddy bear.

And the group hope to use every label design on the collection boxes, which will be placed in local shops, pubs and clubs and at the SRB and Newton 21 Marquee at the Newton Town Show in August.

Pupils at the local senior schools have been asked to raise awareness by designing a poster to promote the installation of the CCTV cameras. The winning designer will win £30 and the runner-up will receive £20, courtesy of GSL Community Solutions Limited of Doncaster.

Winners of both competitions will be announced after the closing date of June 20.
