EVERY year 300 babies are killed or injured in car accidents because they aren't properly restrained.
Unrestrained babies, even if held by an adult, can be thrown against the dashboard or through the windscreen when travelling in the rear or front of a vehicle.
Now the Council Road Safety Unit's stock of hire seats have been upgraded to a new British Standard through funding assistance from the Coalfield Challenge Community Partnerships Project.
A Coalfield Challenge spokesman said: "Previous records proved there was a good uptake of the scheme in the Coalfield Challenge Community Partnerships area of Higher Fold, Westleigh and Platt Bridge, so it was felt to be beneficial to continue to provide the service to residents in these areas."
Baby seats to suit children from birth to eight months are available on low cost hire and free advice is available from the Road Safety Unit at Christopher Street Depot, off Ince Green Lane, Ince. Call 01942 828449 to arrange an appointment.
