COUNCILLORS have delayed a decision on whether to implement a new bus lane on Newbrook Road, Over Hulton, following objections from local residents.
Highways chiefs are proposing to introduce a morning peak-hour-only bus lane and a loading ban on the busy road.
The plans had already been provisionally approved by councillors on Bolton's Highways Sub Committee but after it was advertised there were six objections.
And at a meeting, councillors agreed to send a delegation to the site before making a final decision.
Officers said the lane has been proposed to make traffic flow for buses easier during the rush hour.
But objectors say the lane will result in excessive queues of general traffic because in the morning peak hour motorists will be forced to queue in one lane only for the length of the bus lane.
Another objector has complained about the plan to impose a leading ban, which he says will hit his gardening and horticultural business operating from his home.
Local councillor for the area, Joyce Kellet called for the site visit.
She said: "That road is very congested but some residents are not convinced this will enhance traffic flow."
