IN her desperate defence of what I call the Mickey Mouse Millennium Bridge (Citizen, June 4) Cllr Jean Yates alleges that parents and cyclists are suffering intolerable hardship and torment due to lack of it.
Agreed, a bridge can be of great benefit and convenience to many people. However the same could be said about a Portaloo but nobody wants one of those on their doorstep either. These things have to be suitably located.
The wild, chaotic design of the bridge makes it a totally alien feature in the quayside conservation area. Is this the best we can do or are the designers limited by cost?
If there is a genuine need for a bridge then let us have a proper one, a structure of quality and character in harmony with its surroundings, something we could all be proud of.
I think Lancaster certainly deserves something better than what has been proposed
