MORE than 100 soldiers of the King's Own Royal Border Regiment marched through Lancaster on Friday to celebrate their return from a successful tour of duty in Bosnia.
Wearing full uniform and with bayonets fixed, the 'freedom march' was led by the regimental band and paraded past the town hall where Lancaster's mayor, Cllr Abbott Bryning, looked on (pictured).
The regiment hold the title of 'Freemen of the City of Lancaster' and after parading through the streets, the mayor presented a number of soldiers with their medals. Commenting on the visit, Cllr Bryning, said: "In 1980, during my last term of office as mayor, I was proud to take the salute from our local regiment. I do believe they have not been able to exercise their rights again until now. Therefore, I am doubly proud and honoured to be taking the salute again." Following the formalities, soldiers showed off some of the latest military equipment and technology.
