COUNCIL estate managers in the Brunshaw area of Burnley are receiving "extremely favourable" cash treatment compared with other districts of town, a finance chief has claimed.
Coun Peter Kenyon told Burnley housing committee he was profoundly unhappy with a legal agreement which allowed the Brunshaw Management Board to keep a £20-per-property annual administration allowance while other estates had seen their annual payment slashed to £11 per house to save council cash.
Even with a voluntary agreement by Brunshaw to waive three per cent of its total, it still receives an extra £16,000 compared with other areas.
The additional cash comes from savings made by other estates' budgets last year.
Coun Kenyon suggested a compensating adjustment to the house repairs budget for Brunshaw to ensure it was not treated more favourably than other areas.
"The fact is £16,000 is not available to spend on other areas and I think that is particularly unfair," he said.
However, housing chairman Rafique Malik told him Brunshaw had a legal right to the £20 per house.
