STAN Ternent is looking to build up a claret and blue backroom staff.

Former Burnley player and one-time assistant manager Mick Docherty is set to return to the club in a coaching capacity.

And with Docherty having previously worked with Jimmy Robson during their time together at Rochdale, it's possible that Ternent could also look to bring Wembley goalscorer Robson back to the club from Spotland.

Docherty, who captained Burnley's FA Youth Cup winning team in 1968 before graduating to the first team, left his post as assistant to Frank Casper to work as Ternent's number two at Hull City in 1990.

He subsequently managed Rochdale where he worked with Robson, who scored for Burnley in their 1962 FA Cup final defeat to Spurs - the 100th cup final goal at Wembley - and made over 200 appearances for the club.

Ternent said on his appointment as Chris Waddle's successor that he wanted to restore some of the Burnley traditions.

And with Docherty and Robson both brought up the Burnley way they would fit the bill as Ternent reshuffles his staff following the departure of Gordon Cowans and Alan Harper.
