A LAST-minute appeal against the threatened closure of a Todmorden arts and crafts day centre has come from Calderdale MP, Mrs Chris McCafferty.
She is asking Calderdale Council not to shut down the Roomfield Activity Centre.
The centre is targeted in a cost cutting-exercise which could save the council £150,000 a year.
The MP has been contacted by many people saying their quality of life would disappear if the closure plan goes ahead.
Mrs McCafferty told Todmorden councillors she wanted Calderdale to build on the successes achieved over many years and not just throw away valuable facilities.
Town clerk, Arlenne Greenwood, has written to social services chairman, Andrew Metcalfe, saying Todmorden Council's biggest desire was to see the day centre remain open.
Coun Frank McManus told the full council that Calderdale should be constantly reminded of government ministers' promises that the people would get a good deal and best value from Labour councils.
