ENVIRONMENTAL projects across Burnley have been given a £200,000 boost to improve to footpaths, bridleways and schools.
The money has been provided by the owners of landfill sites in Burnley, UK Waste and Burnley Council.
UK Waste has the option of paying tax to the Government or using that cash to boost environmental projects provided it can get support of another party.
The projects, which will be carried out over two years, were launched at Rosegrove Infant School where Groundwork East Lancashire is improving the school grounds.
Asphalt is being replaced with a jungle mural and other attractive ideas including raised planters on woodland and jungle themes, leaf seats and asphalt painting.
Groundwork landscape architect Adele Adams said: "We have a number of projects in the Burnley involving schools improving their area and footpath and bridleway improvements. There is also a save it and play waste recycling scheme which involves finding different uses for waste."
